Who is the Public Universal Rabbi?
Welcome! I’m Rabbi Willemina Davidson (they/them), aka the Public Universal Rabbi, but you can call me Rav Mina.
My journey with Jewish learning began when I was 18 after I ran into the woman who would become my first rabbi, Rabbi Lee Moore. That chance meeting led to almost a decade and a half of learning.
Always a spiritual seeker, I devoured as much as I could from as many spiritual traditions as possible growing up, which led me to study anthropology, religious studies with a focus on classics and Islamic studies, and Jewish studies in undergrad. (In addition to as many linguistics and language courses as I could fit.)
In addition to my undergraduate studies, I did Yoga Teacher Training, spent a year learning with my local Baha’i community, studied with Drisha and Svara, attended the Brandeis Collegiate Institute in Simi Valley, found chavrutas and, eventually, found myself in rabbinical school at Hebrew College in Fall 2020.
Ordained in May 2025, rabbinical school was, to say the least, tumultuous on personal, communal, and global levels. Despite the tumultuous nature of that time, I was able to teach in various settings and complete the Pardes Educators Program (PEP), write a teshuva for the Trans Halakha Project’s Teshuva Writing Collective, and take classes on writing prayers and the creating of liturgies and liberation theology at Boston University and Boston College, respectively, through the Boston Theological Interreligious Consortium.
During my two years living in Jerusalem for PEP, I worked with various progressive zionist, as well as non- and anti-zionist, organizations in the year leading up to and the eight months following October 7th, continuing my commitment to liberation for all people.
In addition to my work in the Jewish community, I can often be found biking, cooking, reading, learning Hindi, geeking out over the Rambam, and playfully arguing with my friends about whatever catches our fancy that day.
